Lacquered oak shifts noticeably between daylight and lamplight, and grain varies from board to board. That variation is the point of a solid timber top, but it is worth seeing before you choose.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTeak behaves differently again. Left alone outdoors it silvers to a grey patina within a season. Oiled once or twice a year it holds its warm brown.
